The secretary general of the Istiqlal party, Hamid Chabat, on Tuesday told Moroccan newspaper L’Economiste that his party’s decision to withdraw from the government was for the sake of drawing Morocco out of the “decay” it is heading to.
Chabat, however, affirmed his party’s decision is not final, and that IP remains open to any propositions that would ameliorate the performance of the Moroccan government.
Chabat affirmed that the national council’s decision remains conditional on the king’s opinion based on the Article 42 of the constitution.
“Istiqlal party remains solely under the King’s command,” he added.
Chabat and the other representatives of the Istiqlal party are likely to remain within the governmental coalition as long as adjustments are to be brought to the politics of the current government.
