Rabat- Moroccan customs authorities in Casablanca successfully intercepted a phone trafficking operation on Tuesday, seizing over 10,766 mobile phones that had been illegally imported from China, according to Maghreb Arab Press (MAP).
Moroccan customs officers grew suspicious of the devices and immediately searched their owner who revealed the whereabouts of other electronic devices, including cameras.
Officers disclosed that trafficked phones worth an estimated MAD 5 Million were hidden in a tank inside Casablanca Port’s depository.
This is not the first time trafficking operations have been interdicted. Customs officers spent nine hours inspecting the devices before sending them to a regional customs facility in Casablanca.

The same source added that the success of this operation is the outcome of the strict control measures that have been implemented by Morocco at different crossing points. Moroccan authorities reported that more than 7,000 mobile phones have been smuggled by people through Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca.
